  • Bullies

  • Self centered

Values

  • Loyalty

    • Because the humans betrayed them first

  • Patriotism

    • National pride

    • Because they want to honor where they came from

    • To show how strong they are because they rose out of their weakness

    • Because they want to show their origin story (one that does not include the humans to show how they rose without them)

  • Strength

    • Because they worked so hard to obtain it

    • Because they never want to be weak again

  • Discipline

  • Obedience

  • Bravery

Celebrations

Virya Flower Festival

  • Celebrated on the golden moon which only happens once a year in the spring

  • In the day time before the full moon there is a competition among all the children: a giant scavenger hunt

    • The children must find the Virya flower which is hidden somewhere (in a public place) in the kingdom

    • Whoever finds it first gets the honor of carrying the Virya flower into the moonlight at the ball that night

  • All day the streets are filled with children running here and there, food, dancing, and singing

  • Once a year on a full moon Sylvor will have an outdoor ball, in a clearing under the full moon, to celebrate their kingdom, their kind, their freedom, and the blooming of the Virya flower

    • Although this seems contrary to their fierce nature, it is a form of respect, patriotism, chivalry to know the dances and participate in the ball

The Tournament

  • This is in celebration of the new year

  • It lasts the course of a week or two

  • Anyone younger than 21 (as long as they pass their entrance test, which is like a check up with the doctor) are allowed to compete

    • The entrance test is to make sure a five year old with big dreams doesn't die in the deadly games

    • Participation is voluntary, but quite common for people going into the military

  • The games consist of a number of deadly tasks and competitions, they test mental and physical capacity as well as skill, wit, strength, bravery, obedience, determination, and loyalty

    • The games are based on elimination, not a fight-to-the-death, however deaths are quite frequent

  • If you win the games then you are guaranteed a life of authority, respect, high status, and you automatically become a very important/influential member of society

The Founding of Sylvor

  • They reenact battles

  • Have festivals filling the streets from dawn till dusk

  • Food and carnivals

  • Booming day for businesses

  • At the end of the day everyone goes home and has dinner with their family

End of the Rainy Season

  • This is celebrated on the first day of the sunny season

  • The bird-morphs have races through the treetops

    • There are many other interspecies competitions

    • As well as family competitions and bonding

  • They also celebrate by going swimming on a sunny day

    • Such as in a river or big pool

  • There is also a ball/dance to commemorate the occasion

Traditions

  • If someone does you a favor then you are in debt to them until you have done them a favor in return.

    • This results in the fact that no one really wants to accept help from someone because they don't want to be in debt to them

  • Food and meals are extremely significant

    • The provider of the meal is giving the guest a high form of respect by becoming the servant and putting the guest before themselves

      • If you can provide a nice meal for someone, it shows them you care and you respect them

        • It also shows commitment, competence and responsibility (Hunter knows how to cook very well)

      • If you can't it is a very low move and quite offensive

    • The acceptor of the meal is showing a high form of respect by enjoying, eating, and finishing whatever they are served

    • Eating a meal together shows mutual respect.

  • At 7 years old, a morph starts an apprenticeship under whatever they wish to become one day.

    • If they wish to be in the army, then at 7 they begin their training

    • This results in the family usually deciding

Rights of Passage

Final Walk

  • Different for everyone (depends on your morph and what career you've chosen)

  • You must do a challenge, either fight something, or retrieve something, or pass a special exam

  • It depends on what you want to do in society

  • If you want to be a baker I'm sure your test would be baking a cake for the queen

  • A fighter you would either do there tournament and not die or even win or you would do a private test where you would fight a bear or another soldier

  • This is kind of the alternative to the tournament if you win the tournament you do not have to do this. the tournament counts as your "final walk" but you will most likely go into the army if you do the tournament

  • When your mentor/ trainer/ master thinks that you are ready they will advise you to do this

  • This is the final step between youth and becoming a full fledged member of society

  • You get your own place to live

  • You have a job

  • You make all your own decisions

  • When you finish this final test you get a necklace that represents:

    • Your place in society

    • Your morph

    • How you did on your test

    • That you are now officially a part of the tribe (if you were to ever be banished then this necklace would be symbolically ripped from your neck.)

Nationality/Appearance

  • The morphs are very athletic

  • They can have any skin, eye, or hair color

  • Both men and women are very strong

  • When they morph into their animal

  • They look exactly like their animal

  • Except for their eyes: their eyes are always golden

  • Their animal self takes on some of their characteristics

  • Like hair color/ skin color â€‹

  • If they have freckles they would most likely have splotches on their fur or feathers

Dress/Clothing

In General

  • Very practical

  • Simple yet flattering

  • Purposeful

  • Detailed and beautiful

  • Light and breezy enough to keep them cool in the humid weather

Specifics

  • Lightweight clothing that ensures they don't get too hot

  • Athletic clothes

  • The clothes are made to be utilitarian, not particularly fashionable

    • They are made for a purpose and fulfill that purpose

    • Yet they still look nice

    • Imagine dauntless from divergent

  • Although during balls and dances they have a whole different purpose, their purpose is to look beautiful, so the Morphs fulfill that as well as they fulfill anything, with perfection, meticulousness, and exquisite taste

    • They still have their practical vibe but they are graceful and becoming of everyone

    • Part of the beauty of the clothing is the symbols on them

      • These symbols can tell the story of their people

    • Everyone has a chance to look nice and they takes full advantage of it

      • But at the same time it feels relaxed and accepting like they don't have to try very hard

Language

Unique Phrases

  • “Viyra”

    • In reference to the Viyra Flower

    • Used as an exclamation of amazement, shock, or frustration

      • Depends on their tone

Dancing

  • Their dances are surprisingly graceful and beautiful

  • Where the rest of their culture is focused on strength and accomplishment the dances hold the same purposefulness and strength and even the same focus just morphed (pun unintended) a little bit into something graceful and fun

  • It is lively

  • They have serious dances as well as lively all kinda

  • (Although they are very military focused they are also family and community focused, so dancing games and joy are a big element)
